WebMondrian is Jeff Ellingson's website design and development firm. We are located in the Spokane Washington area, but can work remotely with ease. Our preference is for clean uncluttered websites, but we will obviously design and build whatever style you'd like for your site.
Broadway Boogie Woogie
Piet Mondrian 1943
Jeff started adult life as a biochemist, working for a number of years in San Francisco area biotech (and a few years in Amsterdam as well, which is where the Mondrian connection is from!). In the early '90s Jeff pursued and earned a Masters degree in computer science. Jeff's mother was an accomplished artist (see artgroove.com) before her untimely death in 2002, and he would like to believe that he inherited at least a small piece of her aesthetic eye.
While camped out in The Netherlands for a few years back in the early 1990s, Jeff was introduced to Dutch art. The Dutch Masters are perhaps the best known art influence from Holland, but he was more interested in a movement called "De Stijl" (literally, the style) that included everything from furniture design to painting. Among the artists who contributed to de Stijl was Piet Mondrian, whose work changed from semi-impressionistic landscapes to abstract works of bright rectangular grids.
Though there is usually some ambivalence about Mondrian's geometric work, seeing it at once as a gimmick but also as a style that was unique and aesthetic enough to stand on its own merit. With our appreciation for clean website design, the connection was natural and thus WebMondrian was born!
Here is a good website about the artist and his work. To see some of his paintings, simply do a web image search on 'piet mondrian'.
